This exercise helps improve shoulder abduction by using a wand or cane to assist in raising the arm.

Instructions

  1. 1Hold a wand or cane with one hand palm up and the other palm down.
  2. 2Slowly raise the injured arm to the side while keeping the other arm steady.
  3. 3Lower the arm back down to the starting position.
  4. 4Repeat this motion for 10-15 repetitions.
  5. 5Focus on smooth and controlled movements.

Programming Recommendations

We recommend performing 3 sets of 10 repetitions, once or twice daily unless directed otherwise by your healthcare provider.
